Dandruff problems?

Hi, I think it's a good day to give a simple dandruff remedy. Now remember this should be done frequently to attain maximum results.


Using lemon or lime, massage 2/4 cup of lemon or lime juice into scalp for several minutes, then rinse with water. REPEAT DAILY.
Note: This can be diluted with water and used to rinse hair after washing with a shampoo.

How to maintain your hair while transitioning

Transitioning is a process of trying to grow your natural out without doing a big chop immediately, in the hopes of cutting the relaxed part later on. Transitioning can be frustrating sometimes, believe me am in that stage right now but learning how to deal with it is very important.  First of all transitioning is a very crucial stage for your hair and this means you have to take good care of your hair by washing frequently, Oiling with coconut oil or olive oil and making protective styles. A good protective Style that would last long enough could be braids or a sew in. If you find that these styles stress your hair you can always go with natural looking wigs.
Now I am going to make a checklist all things you can do to maintain your natural hair. These are the things I have experimented with and they work for me, if it doesn't work for you you can always switch it up or try order options.
1. Always deep-condition your hair every 2 weeks, if you make a protective Style you should deep condition before and after you take down your protective Style
2. Do not allow your scalp to dry up, this Would pave the way for dandruff and make your hair break off. You can use any essential oil like coconut oil or olive oil or even hair creams that have one or more of these essential oils. This does not mean you should overload your hair with too much oil but just apply enough to grease your scalp making sure that's you line the areas where your natural hair meets the relax hair.
3. Make protective styles that are not too tight on your scalp. If the style is too tight it would break your hair and exact tension on your hairline.
4. Always wash your hair at least once in two to three weeks. This is essential because you are using a lot of oil on your scalp and you need to wash it off from time to time and apply again using the hot oil treatment method. The hot oil treatment involves warming up the oil of your choice just a little bit that's warm to the touch, then section your hair and line the oil at the base where your natural hair and the relaxed hair meets.
5. Stay positive and try not to get frustrated. The transitioning time is very crucial and time-consuming and you could easily be tempted to relax your hair because of the stress you may be facing. Just remember that once you get true this stage you would be happy with the end result. Have a blessed week ahead.

Things to avoid when growing your hair

Growing you hair healthy is not rocket science, in fact its as easy as 1.2.3.4.5.. so here are 5 things you should avoid when trying to grow your hair healthy

1. Avoid the use of excess heat tools

It is important to know that curls are gentle, this means excess heat can damage your hair or change your curl pattern. Even if you must use these heat tools, it should be from 1-3 times a year. This helps to preserve your curls and prevent heat damage.
2. Avoid very tight protective styles
Now I know people love very tight hair styles because they think it will last longer but when trying to grow your hair healthy, you need to release the tension on your scalp which will help prevent your edges from falling off. I make hair on the side because am a student so I know what am talking about. 


3. Avoid sleeping on cotton material pillow cases without a satin scarf


Cotton is capable of absorbing water from your hair and this is bad when trying to grow your hair properly. You need a satin scarf or satin pillow case to help you retain the moisture in your hair when you sleep.


4. Avoid using too much products on your hair

People feel that the more the better but in fact too much products on your hair will block your pores, which in turn won't allow your hair absorb moisture so it can grow. Product build up can also cause your scalp to be dry thereby causing dandruff 

5. Avoid dehydration

Believe it or not water is extremely essential when trying to grow your hair and retain. Whether its spraying water on your hair using a spray bottle you can easily get from the dollar store or drinking it, just remember moisture is good for your hair and dryness will cause your hair to break off and dandruff to buildup.

Things you should know when transitioning from relaxed to natural hair

Starting your natural hair journey is not easy so here are 5 basic things I think you should know when transitioning..


1. You need to be patient ☺

Believe me you don't fully understand the meaning of the word PATIENCE until you start transitioning (I know because am transitioning right now). Sometimes you might feel tempted to relax your hair because you feel it's too hard to take care of the new texture (the curly natural hair), I beg you, do not give in. You will be rewarded for your patience.

2. You need to create a regime that works for your hair and stick to it

Learning how to take care of your hair is very important if you want your hair to grow healthy and long, you ca not deep condition once in 2 months and expect perfect results. You need to spend time taking care of your hair because its like a new born baby and it needs all the love and care you can give her.

 3. You need to read books and articles that will educate you more on how to take care of your hair


Teri Laflesh's book "Curly Like Me" is a very wonderful book that I think anyone going natural should read. Its an inspirational book and believe me it will motivate you to do more for your hair. In the book Teri talks about a lot of issues she encountered trying to understand her hair type and how she finally figured it out, she also talks about techniques that would help you take care of your hair. 

4. You have to stay positive

Believe me sometimes when I see all these girls on Instagram or facebook with their wonderful looking hair, I almost wanna start crying because it seems like they grew their hair in 2 days. I know its not easy but you have to remember they didn't grow all that in 2 days, it took time, patience and persistence.

5. You need the right tools


As a soldier going to war, you need your gun. As a Doctor going to perform a surgery, you need your scalpel. As a naturista learning to grow your hair healthy, you need the right comb, shampoo and conditioner, oils, protective style ideas and lots of water.

A simple deep conditioning mixture to help soften and aid hair growth

Ingredients
First of all I wanna apologise for being away for so long, school happened. In November 2015 I decided to transition and go natural with my hair because since I got to Canada in 2014, the dry weather has not been nice to my hair and my hair started breaking and falling off, which made me try a lot of things to revive the hair but nothing worked until I found the naturalista world. Now its 5 months and I can see my natural hair has grown 3 inches and this has made me very happy because my efforts are paying off. So to encourage other lovely ladies transitioning like me, i wanna show and explain how i maintain my hair.
First I will start with the ingredients you would need for this deep conditioning mixture
1. Honey
2. 1 Egg
3. Mayonnaise
4. Avocado
5. Empty plastic container (I use my old mayonnaise container)
6. Shower cap (would advice you have one specially for deep conditioning days)

Mixing
All you need to do is mix 2 tablespoon of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 egg, peel the avocado and use only the green part (some people use banana instead, I prefer avocado because it does not



leave particles on my hair), into the empty plastic container ( I use a spoon to turn and mix until it is smooth like the picture shown below). 



Applying to hair

Applying is easy but i feel i still need to explain a little because sometimes people complain that it does not work. Remember you are transitioning so any treatment you apply to your hair should be at the borderline of the straight and curly area of your hair, you will need to part your hair with your fingers NOT a comb (the comb will cut your hair because you have two different textures now) and apply the mixture down the line you have parted (as shown in the picture below), now cover the rest of the hair with the mixture then wear your shower cap and allow it sit for 1-2 hours. Afterwards rinse (NOT wash) then apply any leave-in conditioner of your choice.

NOTE: To obtain maximum results, deep conditioning should be done once in a week or two. You will notice the difference if properly done.
